Chateau La Croix des Pins - Rhone Wine Tasting Feb. 7 and Feb. 15

NEW WINES FROM THE RHONE VALLEY

RHONE WINE TASTING
Our first shipment of Rhone Valley wines from Chateau La Croix des Pins has arrived and we would love you to join us at FOS in Bendigo on the 7th of Feb. and/or at The Recreation in Melbourne on the 15th of Feb.

This will be a great opportunity to taste these wonderful wines. In particular we have good supplies of the brilliant Rose which will come into it's own now that summer has well and truly arrived and the Ventoux Rouge will be a perfect drink on a balmy summer's evening. Please see below for the tasting notes.

Les Trois Villages Rose 2016
The winemaker’s notes say that it is a blend of 40% Shiraz and Vermentino for floral notes, 40% Cinsault and Grenache for citrus flavours and 20% Marselan for freshness and vivacity.
My impression was a wine with pale salmon pink colouring. This is not a Rosé with deep rouge pigmentation. The palate has silky, elegant fruit which lingers in the mouth without any oiliness so often found in Rosé. The finish is fresh, clean and vibrant with refreshing acidity. At 12.5% alcohol you will find yourself looking for a second glass as the sun goes down on a balmy summers evening. Cellaring; Drink now.
Les Trois Villages Rouge 2015
This is the wine that captured my attention at the café in Champagne.
It is a blend of Grenache 80%, Shiraz 10%, Mouvedre 10% and Carrignan 5%. It has a very youthful, deep ruby red colour and the bouquet is one of fresh vibrant sweet, spicy fruit aromas whilst avoiding the less attractive plum aromas. The palate displays beautiful concentrated fruit with a lovely long savoury finish. This is a wine with balance and harmony.
Cellaring; 2 to 4 years.

Gigondas "Les Dessous des Dentelles" 2014
A blend of Grenache 65%, Shiraz 25% and Mouvedre 10%. This wine has a deep, rich red colour, almost purple. The bouquet has a lovely spicy, white pepper aroma thanks to the larger percentage of Shiraz. The palate has tonnes of fresh delicious fruit with soft integrated tannins and a lingering fresh, clean, savoury finish.
Cellaring; 3 to 6 years.

Gigondas "Le Parpaillon" 2014
A blend of Grenache 65%, Shiraz 20% and Mouvedre 20%. This wine takes a step up in complexity and I would suggest it comes from older vines. The subtle use of oak is evident on the nose and this compliments the concentrated fruit aromas. The palate is fuller than the previous two wines with a degree more complexity. The palate is long and lingering with a savoury finish and balanced harmonious tannins.
Cellaring; 5 to 8 years.

In addition to our Rhone wines above we will also give you a last chance to have a taste the of two Domaine Michel Gros wines below, before the 2015 wines arrive later in the year.

2014 Hautes Cotes de Nuits. Bourgogne
Here the nose is airier and more elegant with its slightly more complex array of rose, violet and dark berry fruit that it trimmed in just enough wood to notice. There is good vibrancy to the textured middle weight flavors that deliver equally good complexity on the saline-inflected finish. Burghound. 88 Points
Lovely red hue. The bouquet shows lovely complex raspberry aromas with a touch of oak present. The palate has lovely balanced texture and great persistence of flavour.

2014 Nuits St Georges. Les Chaliots. Village
Here too the pungent nose displays plenty of wood toast on the strongly reduced aromas. By contrast there is both good freshness and detail to the relatively sleek, even refined, medium-bodied and lightly mineral-suffused flavor that possess better overall depth and length on the nicely balanced finale.    Burghound 91 points.
Medium crimson red. The bouquet is slightly subdued at this stage but the palate has beautiful fruit and texture with soft tannins and good acid balance. IL.
