Wine Connect

Wine-Connect Newsletter November 2015.

We are rapidly approaching Christmas and that means that the silly season is upon us. Here at Wine Connect we believe we have you covered for your champagne requirements for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
John and I have put together a range of great champagnes at unbelievable prices so you can afford to get a little more enjoyment out of the festive season and maybe put a few bottles in the cellar as well.
Our selection includes a range of champagne from the larger houses, as well as some grower champagnes. See below for more information on each of the champagnes in our range.

To place your order, logon to www.wine-connect.com.au and follow the prompts, or simply follow the product links.

Serendipitously, just as we were preparing our champagne offer we received a copy of today's Age/Sydney Morning Herald 'Good Food' supplement and today they have listed their top 10 champagnes for the festive season and wouldn't you know it, Wine-Connect is listing three of them. They are, in alphabetical order;

Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve NV $100 .....Wine-Connect's price $85
Pol Roger Blanc de Blancs 2008 $150.........., Wine-Connect price $125
Ruinart Blanc de Blancs NV $110................, Wine Connect Price $99

Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve NV           $85.00/bottle in any six.
Charles Heidsieck is a small but exceptional champagne producer based in Reims, the capitol of Champagne. This bottling is based on the 2007 vintage blended with some excellent reserve wines. With seven years on lees prior to disgorgement this is a complex and sophisticated non vintage. In my mind, one of the very best non vintage champagnes on the market. 5 Stars Winestate magazine.

Deutz Brut Classic NV         $79.00/bottle in any six.
Deutz are located in the famous village of Ay in the heart of Champagne and their Chef de Cave, Michel Devesne, has perfected the art of producing very fine and elegant champagne. This is a perfect aperitif champagne.

Godmé Millesime 2006   $79.00/bottle in any six.
Godmé are a small family owned and operated winery in the village of Verzenay, overlooking Reims. Their vineyards have biodynamic certification and they are fastidious about their wines. Freshly arrived from Champagne, I tried this champagne for the first time on November 19 and I was bowled over by its beauty. This is without a doubt the best vintage champagne I have tried from Godmé.

Godmé Blanc de Blancs NV             $69.00/bottle in any six.
The Godmé Blanc de Blancs has elegance and yet, persistence of flavour with a lovely complexity of brioche aromas. This wine has wowed judges at Gourmet Traveller Wine magazine in the past when they awarded it 4 stars.

Godmé Blanc de Noir NV                $69.00/bottle in any six.
The Blanc de Noirs is made from 100% Pinot Noir which gives it a deeper colour and a fuller palate. There is a greater intensity of fruit and length of flavour. This is a beautiful champagne to accompany a salmon or Tuna dish.

Henri Goutorbe Cuvee Millesime 2006       $69.00/bottle in any six
We are seeing some lovely champagnes from the 2006 vintage and this is no exception. This is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay which has a lovely fresh yeastiness to the bouquet with a beautiful palate structure and balanced acidity on the finish. Once again this is a champagne that would make a lovely match with fine flavoured entrée.

Henri Goutorbe Brut Tradition NV            $55.00/bottle in any six
This champagne is a blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. There bouquet is Pinot dominated as you would expect with just a touch of brioche and butterscotch. This is a fuller aperitif style of champagne from the village of Aÿ.

Joseph Loriot-Pagel Blanc de Blancs 2008             $69.00/bottle in any six.
In my mind this is one of the finest Blanc de Blancs produced by the Loriot family which is not surprising as it comes from the highly praised 2008 vintage. The wine is fresh and young as a 100% chardonnay should be. The wine is harmonious with a beautiful balance of fruit and acidity. This is a lovely aperitif champagne now but it will be even more complex with a further five years cellaring. Gold Medal at the Brussels Wine Show.

Joseph Loriot-Pagel Cuvée de Reserve 2008          $69.00/bottle in any six.
Again from the 2008 vintage, this wine is a blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay and it is the big brother of the blanc de blancs as it has a deeper colour and a fuller palate. This champagne is beautiful as an aperitif but will also stand up to some well matched seafood dishes.

Joseph Loriot-Pagel NV                   $56.00/bottle in any six.
Like the previous wine, this is a blend of all three champagne varieties and it shows all the delicacy of a fine, non vintage champagne. Finesse is the overriding characteristic of this wine and it is a joy to sip on a glass or two at the end of the day.

Pol Roger Blanc de Blancs 2008   ......   $125/bottle in any six.
The Pol Roger Blanc de Blancs will be remembered as one of the great wines from the 2008 vintage. It is slightly more advanced than the Loriot-Pagel wine of the same vintage. The nose is crisp and clean with the first hint of toasty chardonnay starting to appear. The colour is a beautiful green/yellow and the palate is full of flavour and displays the creaminess I associate with the house of Pol Roger.

Ruinart Blanc de Blancs NV   $99.00/bottle in any six. $95.00 bottle in a carton of six.
The house of Ruinart is a chardonnay dominated house and not surprisingly their Blanc de Blancs NV is their showcase wine. Winemaker Frederick Panaiotis is fastidious about his wines avoiding contact with oxygen and the result is this lovely fruit driven blanc de blancs which is made to enjoy now. The nose is fresh and delicate but the palate has an intensity you wouldn’t expect to see from a young chardonnay and it is silky smooth to finish.

Veuve Clicquot Rosé 2004.  $115.00/bottle in any six, $110/bottle in a carton of six.
Veuve Clicquot is the opposite to Ruinart as it is a Pinot Noir dominated house looking for more robust wines that age beautifully over many years. One wine in their range that does this is their vintage Rosé. The pinot noir for the Clicquot rosés comes from the village of Bouzy and it is renowned for its longevity. The aroma of this wine is perfumed thanks to the Pinot Noir with just a touch of toast and butterscotch. The palate is delicious and rounded with a crisp clean acidity that leaves the mouth fresh, clean and ready for the next sip.
