2022 Clos Floridene Blanc $54.00 Graves
2022 Château Guiraud $140.00 Sauternes
We visited Château Guiraud on this year’s Bordeaux tour and we were fortunate enough to taste the 2022. This is beautiful sauternes with delicious lusciousness and tremendous length of flavour. It will age for a further 10 years. It is a perfect accompaniment to paté, blue cheese, fresh fruit and fruit tarts.
Red Bordeaux
2022 Chateau Floridene Rouge $54.00 Graves
60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, grown in the Graves region, close to the city of Bordeaux. Floridene Rouge is known for it’s clarity of fresh fruit and balanced oak treatment with balanced and gentle tannins.
2022 Château Latour-Martillac. $96.00 Graves
50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 8% Petit Verdot.
Very dark crimson. Finely leafy fragrance. Pure, dark fruit and so juicy; the tannins are grippy but balanced by masses of fruit. Julia Harding MW. jancisrobinson.com

Chateau Sociando Mallet has been a consistent performer and a friend of Wine Connect for many years, and the 2022 is right up there. “Tasted blind. Deep crimson. Rich and sweet. But good freshness, too. Very appealing! Smooth and alluring”. Jancis Robinson
2022 Blason d’Issan $72.00 Margaux
We have been impressed with Blason d’Issan for a number of years now and as the second wine to Château d’Issan it gives a peek inside the quality of the Château without the financial outlay.
55% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Petit Verdot. Cask sample.
Brambly and lifted. Broad and fleshy. Juicy extract and well-presented tannins. Handles the alcohol well. James Lawther MW
2022 Château d’Issan $195.00 Margaux
Tasted blind. Deep crimson. Ripe, sweet damson and blackcurrant fruit with a nice hint of lead pencil. Juicy but firmly textured. James Lawther MW
2020 Chevalier de Lascombes $79.00 Margaux
This second wine from Chateau Lascombes always delivers plenty of flavour and complexity. Whilst it is often described as a wine to enjoy when it is young, I find that it ages perfectly up to 10 to 12 years.
2022 Château Lascombes $225.00 Margaux
Our visit to Chateau Lascombes is one of the highlights of our Tour de Bordeaux. Their new cellars are exquisite, and the tasting is highly educational as we try current vintage wines from the barrel, followed by a sensational lunch in the chateau where the meal is matched with much older wines. So the evolution and aging ability of the wines is there for all to see.
Tasted blind. Very deep crimson. Concentrated nose, too. Lots of stuffing and fun. Masses of fruit on top of the tannin, which obtrudes towards the (dry) end. Very 2022 Margaux. Jancis Robinson
2022 Lacoste Borie $79.00 Pauillac
The Lacoste Borie has to be one of the most enjoyable wines from Bordeaux. It oozes succulent fruit and soft tannins. We drank the 2018 on our first night of this year’s Tour de Bordeaux, and it was a winner. This is possibly the best value Bordeaux I know.
56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc. Cask sample.
Fragrant blueberry and blackberry nose. Oak a tad present but the palate lively and fresh, the acidity at a decent level. Attractive texture of tannin and clean finish. Approachable but has the potential to age. James Lawther MW
2022 Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste (GPL for short) $215.00 Pauillac
I first tasted GPL in 1978; it was the 1964 vintage and I have been enjoying this Chateau ever since. This is the big brother of Lacoste Borie, and it has all the additional muscle and complexity that you would expect.
Great, nuanced crimson. Rather luscious on the nose and palate. Very flattering, with an iron corset of dry tannin. So youthful! Great energy. Extremely ambitious. Jancis Robinson
2022 Pichon Comtesse Reserve $135.00 Magnum $250.00 Pauillac
I have enjoyed this wine since I saw it in a tasting 13 years ago, and I have been wanting to import it ever since, but quantities have been limited. Fortunately, I have succeeded this year.
Tasted blind. Blackish, purplish garnet. Low-key nose. Bone dry but silky-textured. Superior stuff in classic style. Reasonably long. Jancis Robinson
2022 Château Lafon Rochet $129.00 St-Estèphe
Yet another of the Chateaux we visit on the Tour de Bordeaux and you can see why when you taste their wines which have wonderful fruit intensity and complexity as well value for money.
Tasted blind. Sumptuous nose. Much sweeter and softer than most of its peers – which is arguably no bad thing! Dry finish. But lots of power. Jancis Robinson
2022 Château Les Ormes des Pez $85.00 St-Estèphe
We enjoyed an older vintage from this chateau when this year’s tour group had lunch in Pauillac and it was excellent. I don’t have any tasting notes on the 2022, but if the 2018 is an indication, then it will be excellent as always.
One of the true highlights of this year’s Tour de Bordeaux was our visit to Château Leoville Barton in Saint Julien. Madame Lilian Barton conducted our visit, and she put on a wonderful tasting of her 2018 wines. This was followed by an excellent picnic by the Gironde estuary, where we were treated to a fabulous meal with stunning wines from Château Leoville Barton, Château Langoa Barton and Château Mauvesin-Barton. All from the 2012 vintage. It was a perfect start to a wonderful week in Bordeaux. Below is a selection of wines from the 2022 vintage.

Chateau Langoa Barton 2022 Saint Julien $135.00
Lovely mulberry flavours on the nose and concentrated blackberry palate with tremendous length and balance.
Chateau Leoville Barton 2022 Saint Julien $225.00
85.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14.5% Merlot.
Bright, purple-black hue. Huge depth of fruit. Abundant reserve but vigour and freshness as well. Crème de cassis aromas. Firm but fine tannins fully integrated. Length and drive on the finish. Ticks all the boxes. Promises well. James Lawther MW
