The Wine Connect 2019 Bordeaux Indent Offer

Untitled Document

Tasting Notes.

As with previous Bordeaux indents, it is our goal to offer you the best available choice of wines from the Bordeaux Region. Often this will mean a selection of second labels which I believe offer greater value for money. Tasting notes below are taken from the Jancis Robinson website unless otherwise stated.

Right Bank

Les Chateau Figeac 2015. Thick and a little sturdy with lots of chewy tannin. Very youthful, very ambitious.  JR 17/20   $515

Petit Figeac 2014 (2nd Label) 50% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon. 35% new oak.
Very dark – especially in comparison to Cheval Blanc just tasted. Rather juicy and toasty and friendly. The aim is to make something to drink between two and eight years. Very charming and very Figeac.  JR 17/20    $119

Left Bank.

Pessac Leognan

Domaine de Chevalier 2015. Neat and luscious and sweet. Much richer than most previous vintages.   JR 17/20    $179 Participants on Ian’s recent Tours of Bordeaux will know exactly how good this Domaine and it’s wines are.

Esprit de Chevalier (2nd Label of Domaine de Chevalier)

Blackish crimson. Sweet black-cherry fruit on the nose and quite marked acidity on the palate. JR 15.5/20  $59

Margaux

Alter Ego de Palmer 2015
(2nd Label Chateau Palmer)

Mid to dark crimson. Floral, aromatic, lifted. Sweet start. Pretty fine and appealing. JR 17/20 $195

Chateau D’Issan 2016

Mid crimson. Vigorous nose. Round texture and really rather admirably relaxed. Certainly not sweet. Quite long. JR 17+/20  $160 I tried this Chateau for the first time this year and it was an absolute stunner. Ian L.

Blason D’Issan 2016.

Fresh and penetrating aroma. Luscious texture. Doesn’t taste like a second wine! JR 16.5/20  $69

Chateau Lascombes 2016

Dark blackish purple. I'd hate to be given this blind. It's pure Napa Valley! So sweet! So concentrated! JR. 16.5/20 $195  Bordeaux tour members will remember Chateau Lascombes for it’s fabulous wines and hospitality. Ian L.

Chevalier de Lascombes 2016. $80

Pauillac.

Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste. 2016.

79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot. Harvested 28 September to 13 October. 45 hl/ha.
Very dark crimson. Very ripe and fresh. Pretty glorious expression of the vintage on the nose. Slightly dry finish but really very energetic, – very British claret! JR. 17/20 $199

This is a 5th growth Chateau that challenges the First growths year after year. Ian L.

Lacoste Borie 2016, (2nd wine of Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste) $69

Saint Estephe.

Dame de Montrose 2015

Very dark crimson. Relatively evolved on the nose. JR. 16.5/20  $100.

Pagodes de Marquis 2016 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46.5% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 0.5% Cabernet Franc. Picked 26 September to 15 October.
Fresh, muscular, racy nose. Sweet start – really rather flirtatious! Racy and elegant. 17/20 $115.

Les Dessous

Sauternes

Chateau La Tour Blanche. 2016 (Grand Vin)

RS 135 g/l, TA 3.73 g/l.

Broad, massive in scale with exuberant botrytis and then masses of acidity. Pure grapefruit syrup for the moment! JR 17/20 Bottle $110, Half Bottle $59, Magnum $220.

Les Charmilles de la Tour Blanche. 2016. (2nd Label)
Les Charmilles is a lighter version of the Grand Vin. It has a lower level of Botrytis infection and it is made to be drunk young. It is as much an aperitif as it is a dessert wine. Ian Leamon Bot. $45

Duo de la Tour Blanche 2016.

Dry white wines grown and made in the Sauternes region cannot be called Sauternes and so this wine is regarded simply as, Appellation Bordeaux. That is where the simplicity end though as this is a beautiful dry white wine, full of flavour and elegance. It is a blend of 65% Semillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc. The Semillon is fermented in French oak and the Sauvignon Blanc component is fermented in Stainless Steel.

The Duo takes it’s name from the harmonious blend of the two varieties and it is a beautiful accompaniment to seafood. Cellar for up to five years or enjoy now. Ian Leamon. $32

NB. Older vintages of the Grand Vin are available, these are the 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013. A minimum purchase of 3 bottles will be required. Please contact Ian for pricing details.
