Burgundy
Le Cellier des Ursulines, Auxey Duresses 2013
Auxey Duresses is an extremely
picturesque area to the south west of Beaune and it produces beautiful,
fine flavoured pinot noirs.
This wine is a lovely example of the
sweet cherry and raspberry aromas of Pinot Noir. The palate is fine
and elegant with soft tannins and lively acidity. The Auxey Duresses
will age for a couple more years but it is drinking beautifully now and
it is a lovely match for a duck ragout.
Bordeaux
Bordeaux is the historical and
sentimental home of Cabernet Sauvignon and its cousins Merlot and
Cabernet Franc. Today we are offering you two of the great wines from
the Bordeaux region of Pessac Leognan. Pessac is located only a few
kilometres from the very heart of Bordeaux city and the wines from this
region are known for the generosity of fruit and great complexity.
Domaine de Chevalier 2012
65% Cab Sauv, 30% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. (Thanks for the back label!)
Glowing dark crimson. The most
complex nose of all 2012 Pessacs, with the exception of the Haut-Brion
stable. Pretty muscular and a little obviously chewy on the end for the
moment but confidently presenting a wine whose charms do not depend on
ripeness but on terroir. Appetising. 16++ Jancis Robinson, October 2014
Chateau Malartic Lagraviere 2009
Aromas of blueberries, spices and
bark follow through to a full body, with velvety tannins and a long
silky textured finish. Very fine indeed. Best ever from here. Try it in
2017.
93 Points James Suckling, Wine Spectator. |

Veuve Cliquot "La Grande Dame" 2004
La
Grande Dame is the pinnacle of the Veuve Clicquot range and the 2004
shows all the complexity and sophistication you would expect to find in
a prestigious Grande Marque Champagne made exclusively from Grand Cru
grapes.
The 2004 is a blend of 61% Pinot Noir and 39% Chardonnay.
The wine is pale yellow with a very
fine bead. The aroma of the wine displays fresh brioche and almond
flavours whilst the palate is creamy soft and complex with wonderful
length. A champagne to enjoy now as a lovely aperitif or one to cellar
for another 5 to 10 years. |
